Dealing with damaged gloves in glove boxes and precautions

Precautions for using gloves in the glove box

1Selection and inspection of glove materials

Select gloves of appropriate materials based on the type of substances being operated in the glove box and the experimental requirements. For instance, when handling organic solvents, rubber gloves that are resistant to chemical corrosion should be selected. Gloves used in the nuclear field may require tungsten gloves with radiation protection functions. Before use, it is necessary to carefully check the gloves for any defects such as holes, cracks or damages. This can be done by inflating the gloves or by conducting a light transmission check under strong light. Gloves in the process of operation, to avoid excessive stretch, distort, or direct contact with sharp objects, such as the sharp end of the tweezers, needles, glove against breakage.

2Pressure control and monitoring

When using the glove box, pay attention to the pressure changes inside the box to avoid the pressure being too high or too low, which may affect the gloves. Excessively high pressure may cause the gloves to inflate and burst, while excessively low pressure may lead to the gloves being sucked into the glove opening and colliding with other experimental instruments, resulting in scratches and damage.

3Use of gloves

When using gloves, strictly follow the "sandwich" usage method. First, apply a thin layer of latex gloves to the skin to prevent nails, oils, etc. on the hands from affecting the gloves. Then put your gloves inside and wear another layer of operation gloves outside the gloves in the glove box to better protect the gloves in the glove box from the influence of chemical substances.

Methods for dealing with minor damages to glove boxes

1Stop the operation immediately

If any minor damage to the gloves, such as tiny holes or small cracks, is found one day, the ongoing operation should be immediately stopped. The affected gloves should be slowly pulled out of the glove box to avoid sudden pulling that may disturb the environment inside the box or damage other items.

2Local repair measures

For some minor damages, specialized glove repair tools or materials can be used for repair. For instance, apply glove repair glue to the damaged area and follow the product instructions for curing to seal the damaged area. However, Pinonic suggests: For the accuracy of the experimental results and the safety of personnel, if the gloves are damaged, it is recommended to replace them directly.
